Deuteronomy 7:13

The promises God made to the people of Israel in the Old Testament are referred to as old covenant promises. These belong to us today if we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Believers have a new covenant with God through Jesus which is so much better than the old covenant. No longer are God’s blessings dependent on our behavior. They belong to us – no strings attached – just believe.

For all the promises of God are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him, our “Amen” is spoken to the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 1:20 BSB

And this is what will happen: When you, on your part, will obey these directives, keeping and following them, God, on his part, will keep the covenant of loyal love that he made with your ancestors:

He will love you, he will bless you, he will increase you.

Deuteronomy 7:12-13 MSG

And because you listen to these rules and keep and do them, the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that he swore to your fathers.

He will love you, bless you, and multiply you.

He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground,
your grain and your wine and your oil,
the increase of your herds and the young of your flock,
in the land that he swore to your fathers to give you.

Note

Yes, I can count. There are two verses in this post. 🙂 But I couldn’t just post a verse about a promise that was dependent on our behavior. It is critical that we understand that by dying on the cross and taking the punishment for our sins, Christ satisfied all of God’s requirements – for us!
